will vote on awarding
exclusive negotiating
rights for the Oakland
Army Base. If you have

development issue, the
Chamber has recommended

to move forward a
project that will
distinguish Oakland and
create needed jobs for

Chamber Day with the A's set for
Sept. 21
|
On Monday evening, Sept. 21, when the
Oakland A's face their division rivals,
the Texas Rangers, the Oakland
Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce will
present "Chamber
Day with the A's" at Network
Associates Coliseum.
Join us to show support for the A's and
watch the young players who will take a
major role in a winning effort next
year.
For a ticket price of only $29, Chamber
members can reserve a seat in the
Coliseum's Home Run Plaza in left field
and enjoy unlimited food and drink
(water and soft drinks). Besides the
opportunity to watch Major League
baseball and cheer on the A's, the event
will present an excellent opportunity to
network with other local businesspeople
in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Deadline for Directory advertising is
Aug. 17
|
The deadline for space reservations for
advertising in the
Chamber's 2010 Membership Directory &
Buyers Guide is Monday, Aug. 17.
The Directory, one of the most important
marketing tools that your business can
own, has a 12-month shelf life and is
read throughout the year by some 15,000
businesspeople in the Oakland
metropolitan area. Rates begin as low as

August Mixer will be at Pican!
|
Pican, which has quickly become one
of the most recognized and popular
restaurants in the East Bay, will be
the site of the Chamber's Business
After Hours Mixer on Thursday, Aug.
27. Pican is located at 2295
Broadway. The mixer will run from
5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It is free for
Chamber members and only $10 for
non-members.

Certification Seminars
|
The Chamber and Employers Group have
agreed to offer a series of
free
seminars for our members that
will offer certification. The
program will begin Sept. 8 and run
weekly through Oct. 27. The
Human Resources Generalist
Certificate program has
everything you need.
With a focus on the most critical
issues of HR, this series better
prepares those newer to HR to
effectively handle the issues they
face on a daily basis. The program
is geared to individuals who are new
to HR (less than three years of
experience). You can sign up for the

Mayor
announces tax penalty amnesty program
Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums has announced
the city of Oakland's Tax Penalty
Amnesty Program, which allows businesses
with unpaid taxes or under-reported
gross receipts to file with the city
without penalty between Aug. 1 and Oct.
31 of this year. Businesses that have
not registered with the Revenue Division
are also eligible to apply.
Qualifying taxes include Business Tax,
Residential/Commercial Property Business
Tax, Transient Occupancy Tax, Parking
Tax and Utility User's Tax. In order to
qualify for a penalty waiver, citizens
must apply and submit the Tax Penalty
Waiver Form and the Tax Penalty Amnesty
Application Form, postmarked no later
than Oct. 31, 2009.
After Oct. 31, full penalties and
interest assessments will apply. The
Revenue Division will pursue a range of
enforcement actions, including but not
limited to:
- 25 percent penalty;
- Additional 1 percent per month
interest;
- Notice of violation and fine
- Referral to collections and possible
legal action

Nominate
your favorite businesswoman
Women's Initiative for Self Employment
is asking Chamber members to nominate
their favorite women business owners to
receive the Woman-Owned Business of the
Year Award. Help recognize women who are
creating jobs and stimulating the
economy. The deadline for nominations is
Friday, Aug. 28. To submit your
