the September Business After Hours
Mixer. Hosted by Uptown Body and
Fender, this event is always a great
opportunity to network and unwind.
The September 24th event is not to
be missed. Uptown Body and Fender
pulls out all the stops at their
annual mixer, and this year promises
to be no different. Featuring music
by Rick Ellis (a Frank Sinatra
impersonator!), a dance floor, a
swing instructor, and food from five
Oakland restaurants, our September
Mixer is half networking, all party.

Women in Business luncheon set for
Oct. 2
Is it time to sharpen those
influencing skills, and truly
negotiate yourself into a better
situation? The East Bay Women in
Business Roundtable (EBWIBR) will
feature expert negotiator and woman
business owner Jessica Notini at the
Friday, Oct. 2 Roundtable luncheon.
Notini is one of the Bay area's
finest facilitators and will deliver
an alternative presentation on
conflict resolution as well as the
best way to negotiate in today's

OUSD Superintendent to speak Nov. 4
Oakland Unified School
District Superintendent Tony Smith
will be the featured speaker at a
Chamber of Commerce Power Breakfast
on Wednesday, Nov. 4 as he discusses
priority goals for Oakland students
and schools, district-wide
strategies for meeting those goals,
and the importance of support from
students, parents, government,
business partners and the community
at large. 7:30 to 9 a.m., Waterfront

CCCAC Meeting - The
Chamber's Coliseum Commerce Center
Advisory Committee of East Oakland
businesses (CCCAC) will meet on
Thursday, Sept. 24 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
at the Holiday Inn Oakland Airport, 77
Hegenberger Road. Issues of interest to
area business and property owners and

Conference - "How
to Take Advantage of the Opportunities
in the Infrastructure and Construction

Kaiser Permanente Subcontractor Outreach
- McCarthy Building Companies is
currently providing construction
services for Kaiser Permanente on the
Oakland Hospital Replacement Project
Phase II. The
Kaiser
Permanente/McCarthy team is seeking to
pre-qualify bidders on various
aspects of construction. All interested
bidders, including lower tier
subcontractors, suppliers and truckers

A World of Art in Oakland -
Chamber members are invited to attend a
celebration of
A World
of Culture in Oakland and the East Bay,
a free event in recognition of National
Arts & Humanities Month and
California/Oakland Arts Day, Friday,
Oct. 2. An Arts Community appreciation
reception runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at
Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, followed by a
downtown gallery, restaurant and
nightspot hop from 7:30 to 10 p.m. with
shuttles running from Frank H. Ogawa
Plaza through Uptown and Old Oakland
(last shuttles return to Ogawa Plaza at
10 p.m.). The city will unveil the
