Certificates of Origin (CO)
The certificate of origin is a document certifying the country in which the product was manufactured, and in certain cases may include such information as the local material and labor contents of the product. The purpose of the Certificate of Origin is to authenticate the country of origin of the merchandise being shipped. The Certificate of Origin requires the authorized signature of the local Chamber of Commerce Secretary and the seal of that organization. Certain countries may require a signed statement certifying the origin of exported goods. The Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce offers this authorized service to companies requiring certificates for shipments.

The cost to process Certificates of Origin is $25 per certificate for nonmembers. For members, the cost is $5.00 per certificate. Applicants seeking processed certificates submit a registration notice on their company letterhead for recordkeeping purposes.

Note: The rules for when a certificate of origin is needed change often. Please be sure to verify the current criteria requiring a CO before sending your shipment.
