BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF

– The Boys & Girls Clubs will present their 49th
annual “Tee Off for Youth” Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 6 at

OAKLAND MUSEUM OF
CALIFORNIA
– This year’s Dias de los Muertos exhibition, “Evolution of a
Sacred Space,” opens Wednesday, Oct. 8 and explores the rituals
and elements used to honor the dead. The artworks honor
traditional expressions rooted in Meso-American practices and
showcase contemporary interpretations of sacred spaces. Info:

FOR THE BLIND
– Chamber members are invited to attend a free support group
meeting for senior adults with low vision due to retinal disease

REBUILDING TOGETHER OAKLAND
– RTO is gearing up for its “October Block Building”
during which time an
Oakland
neighborhood will get six homes and two neighborhood schools
repaired. Skilled volunteers are asked to come out on Saturday,
Oct. 11 and then again on Oct. 18 to help. Info:

YMCA OF THE EAST BAY
– The 129th Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition
Celebration will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Hilton
Oakland
Airport, One Hegenberger Road.
A “Friendship Hour” begins at 5:30 p.m., with the program
beginning at 6:30. Tickets are $50 per person, and reservations

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY,
EAST BAY
– On the 140th anniversary of the last major quake to
strike the East
Bay, the Hayward
campus of CSU,
East
Bay will be the site for a
conference on “Earthquake Hazards in the Eastern San Francisco
Bay Area,” held from Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 22-24. As
part of the commemoration of the 140th anniversary of
the 1868 Hayward Earthquake, a free public forum on earthquake
hazards and preparedness will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday,

CHABOT SPACE & SCIENCE CENTER
– How do you feel about a masquerade ball for adults – and an
alien party on the moon for kids? Chabot is hosting both. On
Friday, Oct. 24, the Lunar Lounge returns with a Halloween
masquerade ball complete with live music, dancing and a special
planetarium show. The kids can trick or treat at Chabot on

CIVIC PRIDE
– A Youth Partnership Forum and college, career and community
empowerment faire for Oakland students in grades six to 12 will be
held at the Waterfront Plaza Hotel in
Jack London Square on Saturday, Oct.
25. Students can explore a roadmap for staying on track for
college and positive post-secondary options, and also get
feedback on resumes, courses and grades. The faire, which will
run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., is sponsored by Civic Pride. Info:

CHILDREN’S FAIRYLAND – The annual Jack O’Lantern Jamboree,
“More Delightful than Frightful,” complete with costume parades,
pumpkin decorating, face painting and unlimited rides, will be
held on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26. Admission is $10 per

SIGMA
BETA CLUB – The first “Night with the Golden State Warriors”
of the NBA basketball season will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 when
the Warriors take on the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. at
Oracle Arena. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a great
night of basketball. A portion of each ticket sold goes directly
