BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF OAKLAND – The Boys & Girls Clubs will present their 49th annual “Tee Off for Youth” Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 6 at Oakland’s Claremont Country Club. Info: (510) 444-8211, vcosgrove@bgcoakland.org.

OAKLAND MUSEUM OF CALIFORNIA – This year’s Dias de los Muertos exhibition, “Evolution of a Sacred Space,” opens Wednesday, Oct. 8 and explores the rituals and elements used to honor the dead. The artworks honor traditional expressions rooted in Meso-American practices and showcase contemporary interpretations of sacred spaces. Info: (510) 238-2022, www.museumca.org

LIONS CENTER FOR THE BLIND – Chamber members are invited to attend a free support group meeting for senior adults with low vision due to retinal disease on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 1-2 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Lions Center, 3834 Opal St. in Oakland. Info: (510) 450-1580, ext. 226

REBUILDING TOGETHER OAKLAND – RTO is gearing up for its “October Block Building” during which time an Oakland neighborhood will get six homes and two neighborhood schools repaired. YMCA OF THE EAST BAY – The 129th Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Celebration will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Hilton Oakland Airport, One Hegenberger Road. A “Friendship Hour” begins at 5:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 6:30. Tickets are $50 per person, and reservations must be made by Monday, Oct. 6. CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, EAST BAY – On the 140th anniversary of the last major quake to strike the East Bay, the Hayward campus of CSU, East Bay will be the site for a conference on “Earthquake Hazards in the Eastern San Francisco Bay Area,” held from Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 22-24. As part of the commemoration of the 140th anniversary of the 1868 Hayward Earthquake, a free public forum on earthquake hazards and preparedness will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 in the New University Union. CHABOT SPACE & SCIENCE CENTER – How do you feel about a masquerade ball for adults – and an alien party on the moon for kids? Chabot is hosting both. On Friday, Oct. 24, the Lunar Lounge returns with a Halloween masquerade ball complete with live music, dancing and a special planetarium show. The kids can trick or treat at Chabot on Saturday, Oct. 25 in their costumes. Info: (510) 336-7373, www.chabotspace.org

DUNSMUIR HOUSE & GARDENS – An Oktoberfest & Pumpkin Patch festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25 with old-fashioned games, crafts, hay rides, pumpkin carving, food and live music. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Info: (510) 562-0328, www.dunsmuir.org

CIVIC PRIDE – A Youth Partnership Forum and college, career and community empowerment faire for Oakland students in grades six to 12 will be held at the Waterfront Plaza Hotel in Jack London Square on Saturday, Oct. 25. Students can explore a roadmap for staying on track for college and positive post-secondary options, and also get feedback on resumes, courses and grades. CHILDREN’S FAIRYLAND – The annual Jack O’Lantern Jamboree, “More Delightful than Frightful,” complete with costume parades, pumpkin decorating, face painting and unlimited rides, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26. MUSEUM OF CHILDREN’S ART – Exhibit your artwork in the Kids Paint the Town street exhibit. Artwork from young East Bay artists will be on display in storefront windows on College Avenue. THE AFRICAN NETWORK – The 2008 Entrepreneurship Conference, which is hosted by The African Network and helps showcase Africa’s potential to the world as a major emerging market, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Palo Alto. Info: www.tanconf.org/usa

SIGMA BETA CLUB – The first “Night with the Golden State Warriors” of the NBA basketball season will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 when the Warriors take on the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. at Oracle Arena.
